It was a mid-range CD player in those day and using 16bit DA converter (PCM56 from Burr-brown). It is a 4X sampling machine. When compare with the modern CDPs, it is a little bit out of fashion... However, if you are the owner (or pre owner) of CD93, you should know the sound quality of this machine is fantastic. Why? Please take a look of CD93 from outside in.
The Case The weight of CD93 is almost 14kg! Nowadays, it is hard to find a CD player with this weight. The base was made of aluminium alloy with honey comb shape reinforcement. The top lib of CD93 was made of brass. The non-magnetic material can block the EMF from outside and the weight of the material can reduce the mechanical resonance which was caused by the CD spindle..
The Power Supply Build-in noise filter and using TWO power transformers (with metal casing as shielding). The toroid is for digital and the EI transformer is for analogue. Different functional circuits will have their own diodes and regulators to reduce the signal interference. Note: EI transformer will perform better than toroid in analogue circuit.
AKAI CD 93 The Transport The CD pickup is from Sony and it is KSS151A. It is one of the best of CD pickup and using a dia cast alumunium housing and electro-magnetic servo system ( Not using gear and motor ). On top of the CD pickup is a 5 inches in-width CD clamp. The weight of this clamp can minimize the Cd vibation and makes the CD transport more stable. The weight of total mechanism is more than two pounds!!
AKAI CD 93 The DA board... amazing design! Akai try their best to maximize the potential of every component. 1. No OP amp in signal path! Akai were using matched pair transistors in buffer stage. 2.Instead of using normal diodes, LEDs (light emitted diode) were used. It is because the noise from LED is much lower than normal diode! 3. Using noble copper capacitors which are very rare nowadays. 4. Using Opti-couplers between DA board and receiver board to reduce the noise (as electronic isolator which are mostly used in computer)
Đây cũng là cd A&D CD 9000. Lúc trước tôi cũng đã chơi qua em này, thiết kế rất chắc chắn, đáy làm bằng antimone, nắp lưng làm bằng một tấm đồng rất nặng, khoảng 3kg, dây nguồn to như sợi dây nguồn của cd YAMAHA CDX 2000. Chưa thấy cd nào có bộ cơ dữ như em này, ở trên có một miếng nhôm tròn có đục lỗ ép sát vào dĩa nhằm làm cân bằng để âm thanh ra tròn trịa, chính xác. Âm thanh chi tiết, tốc độ nhanh,bass trầm và sâu thích hợp với mọi thể loại nhạc.(theo cảm nhận cá nhân thì nó hay hơn Marrantz CD 94, 95... Denon hay Sony trong cùng tầm giá và thời gian sản xuất) Tuy nhiên em này có nhược điểm là hơi kén dĩa, dĩa cd Trung quốc mặt vàng thì cái đọc, cái không... còn tất cả thì đọc tuốt dĩa xịn, dĩa copy kể cả dĩa bị trầy xước. giá xuất xưởng là 158,000 Y năm 1987. có lẽ vì thương hiệu không được ưa chuộng tại Vn và hơi kén dĩa cho nên giá khoảng 2t cho một cd đẹp, nếu bác không ngại vấn đề kén dĩa của nó thì theo tôi đây là cd hay nhất trong tầm giá <3t.
