Acoustic Research (AR) USA based producer of loudspeakers, founded in 1954 by Edgar Villchur and started out by producing acoustically suspended loudspeaker called the AR-1, strangely enough the company managed to get patents for the acoustic suspension techniques despite the fact that similar designs had been sold in the USA some 5 years earlier. The company is perhaps better seen as an innovator in the area of marketing were they pioneered such schemes such as a 5 year return to factory warranty and aggressive advertisements campaigns that emphasised innovation and technical superiority that was indeed there to some degree but was perhaps overemphasised, much in the vein of what Bose is doing these days. Due to this and excellent reviews in USA consumer and electronic magazines the company was a clear market leader in the loudspeaker field as early as 1958 but the rapid pace of expansion meant that the company often had difficulty in financing itself, this in turn meant that the introduction of some products were delayed until money had been found to pay for retooling and the updates of the production lines which in turn meant that new models were almost constantly late to market which was at that time evolving extremely rapidly due to the introduction of stereo records and consumer tape recorders, this did not help since AR had a tendency to announce new products early anyway and late shipments meant that some customers put off buying current products and instead waited for the new models. The stress on finances had other negative effects on the company, when the original plant manager of the company left to found he got a license to use the patents that AR held in lieu of financial payments and after just a couple of years KLH had become AR's main competitor with broadly similar models and nothing that the company could do about that despite holding all the patents. While the company continued to grow in the early 60's, it lost market share and Mr. Vilchur ended up selling the company to Teledyne in 1967. There is some information on their classic loudspeaker models to be found on this page (but pls. note that page goes down from time to time). Acoustic Research (Teledyne) Although this company is mostly famous for their loudspeakers they did indeed make a line of hi-fi from the 60's into the late 80's. Their turntables were almost legendary in the US but are seldom seen in Europe with their 80's models being an exception, but those were actually manufactured at the company's UK plant. There is an archive here of articles and pictures concerning the modification and rebuilding of classic 60's AR turntables and Merrill Audio does or did until recently perform modifications on most models. The Merril mod are often seen recommended in the US press and on chat sites but please note that repeated emails from us to Mr. Merril for more info have gone unanswered so please proceed with caution if you are interested in these mods, last time we heard they were no longer supplying platters or the subchassis but did have springs and mechanical parts in stock. The AR-11 model from the early 70's is unusually enough not a USA made or designed table but rather a OEM Japanese model that features a rim drive and auto return in contrast to the belt driven manual models that you have come to expect from the company, this model may not have been sold in all markets. The AR Turntable was the first UK made deck that was introduced in 1984 (slightly different to the US model that was introduced in 82 and not to be confused with the original 60's era models which are classified by the serial numbers), it was a reasonably priced unlike most of the indigenous opposition, got excellent reviews and sold quite well at the time, it's a classic AR 3 point suspended design a la Linn. The deck was usually sold with a unbranded or AR branded Japanese arms, available in a fixed headshell version with a straight armtube or a S type arm with a replaceable headshell, this means a standard Japanese mounting hole and thus it's easier to fit an arm originating from the land of the rising sun such as one of the Linn or Audioquest models than a SME or suchlike. The table could be had without an arm and some dealers sold them set up with Linn arms, company brochures state that the fixed headshell version of the AR arm will only work properly with carts of 8 g. or less, but provides no technical info. A long running manufacturer of loudspeakers and loudspeaker drivers, although it had successfully got into car audio electronics through it's German subsidiary. The company was by the mid 90's a leading manufacturer of home and automotive loudspeakers but faced increasing competition from far eastern manufacturers and outside of the car audio business their attempts to break into the more lucrative parts of the home audio business had not been totally successful, but along the way the company had acquired a number of companies and brands including Acoustic Research (AR), Advent, Phase Linear,Now Hear This (NHT), Mac Audio and Magnat. After having been run at a loss for a few years the company was effectivly split into 3 separate companies in August 1996 and sold off in parts, the consumer and marketing part of the company was sold to Recoton were it continued as the semi-independent Recoton Audio Corp, the OEM loudspeaker driver division was sold to a company called IJI Acquisition Corp that was in fact expressly founded by IJ CEO Robert G. Shaw to buy that operation and the OEM business receivables were sold to the Harris Trust and Savings Bank, this did not go through without problems however and a number of stockholders sued all of the partaking companies and their advisers but to no avail. Em đang dụ bác Melomane tham gia vào hội AR TT. Trượt mất 1 con rất đẹp giá phải chăng rồi :cry: Bác X_L chơi Carver 12 sò với AR90 chắc là tiếng bass mạnh mẽ lắm nhỉ. Bác nên mua thêm con AR TT nữa là đủ bộ

Mấy Bác này cứ úp mở quá AR ...TT là model gì, em biết mỗi AR 10TT thôi. Hay mấy Bác đã lần xuống Quảng Ninh săn AR mà k pm cho em. Không có em hoa tiêu thế nào cũng tiêu. hi hi :lol: Đôi AR TSW910 chắc vẫn nằm trong seri màng loa Carbon: Chất tiếng mạnh mẽ, hùng dũng vầ chi tiết - nhưng lại kén đồ đánh. Đôi này chắc to cao lắm các Bác nhỉ? Mấy đôi TSW610 đã to bổ chẳng rùi.
Em có thấy đôi này ở nhà 1 ông bạn già , ổng hổng xài , để xếp qua 1 bên . Nó gồm 2 bass 3 tấc trước sau , mid low , mid , tweeter , tổng cộng 6 drivers cho mỗi bên .
Vậy thì múc luôn đi Bác, nếu ở HN tiện qua rủ Bác AR3a đi xem hộ, vì nếu Bác không lấy thì em sẽ nhờ Bác ấy lấy luôn cho em. Nhưng nhỡ đâu ông bạn già đó lên vnav nhiều vô AR fan - giá đôi đó chắc cũng lên giá rùi. Chắc đôi này phải to bằng đôi AR 9 của Bác AR3a. Để rùi về ghép nghe Rook đọ với AR 90 của cụ Thích xem sao?
